We've all taken a photograph but it came out nothing like we hoped. Often what our eyes see and what our camera actually captures can be very different and this can be incredibly frustrating.  Often the photograph can be too dark or as it's known in photography terms, under exposed.  Alternatively  it can be too bright or over exposed resulting in a loss of detail. Other times a photograph can be too blurry when you  need it sharp.

In order to take better photographs we first need to take control of our camera and this means shooting in manual mode. Rather than letting the camera tell us what setting it thinks is best, manual mode allows us to tell the camera what settings we need to capture the image.

This workshop will help demystify 3 key components of photography, aperture, shutter speed and ISO and help you become more confident shooting in manual mode. As you learn to take control of your camera you will learn to take better photographs. Workshops are a fun way to learn with groups kept to a maximum of 8 people to allow me to spend quality time mentoring you and supporting you as we walk the streets.

What can I expect to learn on the workshop?

  • Understanding shutter speed and how to change this on your camera.

  • Understanding aperture and how to control the amount of light you let in to each photograph.

  • Understanding ISO and why this is important when taking photographs.

  • Understanding light, the direction of light and the best times of day to shoot using  light to your advantage.

  • Mastering focus to ensure your shots are sharp.

  • How to compose a photograph.

  • How to blur out the background in your photograph separating it from your subject and create depth of field.

PUTTING ALL THIS INTO PRACTICE OUT ON THE STREETS

Once we have covered some of the basic components of photography we will            head out onto the streets of Auckland to put into practice what we have learned.        The streets are the best place to practice your photography skills as there is so          much to capture from people, transport, architecture, water, cityscapes, shapes            and lines. Out on the street no two moments are the same, things can happen in        the blink of an eye and the light can change in an instant just as the unpredictable      Auckland weather changes. The skills you learn out on the streets can be used in      every day life.
